jmaudio
Hi, I am seriously considering purchasing a proper flight case style FOH briefcase to accompany me to gigs, I'm fed up of lugging stuff around in a rucksack and getting worried its going to break. Basic requirements are for it to be able to hold my laptop and assorted cables, the odd DI box, my lunch, paperwork and other little bits and bobs. I think I'm going to go down the custom route as I think that in the long term it will be worth the extra money and I figure its probably going to last me a while too. I had the plan of creating a removable subframe which sits in the flightcase and is foamed suitably to hold my laptop (13" MBP) in place, This could then be taken out for jobs where I don't need the laptop. I was planning on making this so it held the laptop 90 degrees to how you would expect. So long side of the laptop parallel to the shorter side of briefcase This would allow for more room in the case when the laptop subframe was in place. What do people think to this idea? Does anyone have any neat ways of holding the subframe securely in the main flightcase? What are the dimensions for your FOH case, do you find it too big or too small? I'm currently thinking of internal dimensions of around 480x390x125mm. I'm basically after some tips from people who brought have already. Any features which you find useful etc? If people want to post some pictures as well that would be welcome. I'd be interested to hear what you have to say. Thanks, Jamie.
Dj Dunc
My toolcase is 700x400x300 on suitcase roller wheels, with a pull out handle, so I can wheel it behind me. It has a removable divider system, to store all my tools / personals etc. Its also wide enough to fit my 15" MBP in (in a sleeve) with a divider section just wide enough to hold it safely in place. similar to the hardware on this http://www.amptown-cases.co.uk/?dir=werkzeugtrolly&id=1&lang=en, but its actually this case http://www.swanflight.com/roadtrunk-flightcases/budget-trunks-lead-flightcases/russian-doll4.html, with different wheels, and a slightly different interior. It cost me £144 delivered with 3 dividers, 10mm foam, and the pullout handle/wheels combination. If youd like a photo of the actual case, send me a PM and I can email you one.
