Wol Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Could you let us know how you get on? I'm looking into various ways of controlling my show with touch screens and would love to know the different ways people use. MagicQ is very much a piece of software primarily designed to be used with a touchscreen, as it's software for a console which has a touchscreen built in. If you have one of our MiniWings, or PC wings, theres even a "Touch" mode which provides the rest of the normal physical buttons in big finger-friendly onscreen buttons too. For playback, or installs, there's the execute window, which allows you to preprogram a custom grid of items / palletes / faders / groups / macros designed to be used on a touchscreen as well. If you've got a touchscreen to hand, download the software from our site and give it a try :)
HolyPhish Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 If you've got a touchscreen to hand, download the software from our site and give it a try :) I was actually looking for some examples of how people run their own magicQ systems. I've been playing for a while and am about to go to my boss with the proposal of buying the full license. However, I''m looking for ideas/ways of running the shows off a touch screen, i.e. is a 7" screen big enough for an execute window?
paulears Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I'd say no - I'm running a 15" and you can have a lot of info on the screen - small touchscreens need very precise tapping!
smalljoshua Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I find I'm still tapping the odd wrong button on a 22 inch full HD Touch Screen but taht may just be my sausage fingers :P Josh
andrewg112 Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Possibly posted a bit too late...I used the Cheapo dongle for a gig last month. It arrived 2 days before the event, and I used it for a few LED Pars. I printed the On Stage Lighting tutorial, which got me started and even got some scenes in. All in all, quite easy to use when you know how! Cheers,Andy
LXbydesign Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Me again! Well, I found out the spec of the scans the band has - and I have now patched it all up and, in theory, it should be up and running! Thanks to Wols info and the hotkeys list, I actually found it flawless and all seemed to be doing the right thing at the right place at the right time! Mind you, I havant plugged it in to the rig yet! Doh. I know the 7" screen IS quite small, but I have simply plonked onto it the playbacks I need. Its not that many and my fingers are quite slinky anyway so it seems to be working well. One of the other aspect of the screen is that it folds up and I can simply pop it into my rutsack, along with the lappy, paperwork, dongle (when it arrives) and 5 -3 jumper. Right now im as happy as an MP with an unlimited expenses account! :)
Wol Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 However, I''m looking for ideas/ways of running the shows off a touch screen, i.e. is a 7" screen big enough for an execute window? Depends how many things you want in it! We recommend a 5x5 grid for use on our focus remotes, which is based on something around the 3" mark. The size of the grid can be as big or as small as you like. You can also program in next page / previous page buttons if you do need to have several grids if it all doesnt fit on one.
LXbydesign Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Wol! Please could you help! I need to make a personality for a Skytec Diamond Scan. How does one go about this? Its only a 4 channel disco scan . 1. PAN2. TILT3. GOBO4. COLOUR UPDATE: Ok. I been going through the instructions on how to make one, but I dont know what the ranges for each attribute will be as I cant find any spec data on the product from the net. Will that be a problem ?

It shouldnt be a problem.... When will you have the desk/software and the fixtures infront of you? I would just create the ranges from 0 to 255...Then when you come to using the fixtures, if you find some of those ranges are out and the fixture doesn't like (or rather doesn't know what do do with anything past 100 for example) then just edit the range then and there. And because your making the personality yourself, you can figure out later the values for certain colours etc and create a palette for them.
niclights Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I don't know the personality type itself, but I would imagine you just use ranges that run 0-255 DMX for each attribute. Or, alternatively, the Soundlab Colourscan is identical if is already in the library.
Richard CSL Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 if you go onto the freestyler website, they have all the ranges for the "diamond scan" which is the same, but you will need to download their software. then go into the library editor, load up the scanner and there are all the channel attributes.
Wol Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I was very much asleep at 11:20 pm :P Pan and Tilt, I'd imagine, would be 0-255. For the colour and gobo channels, record palletes. Use the encoder wheels to get to a position where the colour / gobo is fully in the beam, and then shift+record, select either beam or colour, and save it to the relevant colour or beam window, then you can use those palletes to recall the various attributes. Either that, or use the encoder wheels to step through from 0>255, and jot down the values on a bit of paper, then use those in the personality editor.
Richard CSL Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 perhaps a sub category on the new video tutorial Wol.??? I think a lot of people would find that really useful. regards Richard. Tenerife.
Wol Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 perhaps a sub category on the new video tutorial Wol.??? I think a lot of people would find that really useful. regards Richard. Tenerife. Yeah. I started off making one yesterday, but it turns out that I'm really bad at talking on mic without picking up every noise I make. Am going to grab a better mic than my gaming headset one and give it another go.
LXbydesign Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 Right, I get ya. So to start with , while creating the personality I can just get away with entering the details such as 4 channel, pan 0-255, tilt 0-255 colour 0-255, gobo 0-255 -- and then fill in the relevent 'colour and gobo ranges once I know what they are after going through them! Thats great. Thks chaps!
