In the interests of disclosure, you could perhaps point out that the company you own sells Danley speakers...

If you read my post I said I just installed a nexo rig, d&b recently so you could say I don't just sell Danley. IMO I think the Danley sounds better and their subs are simply the best. I don't work for Danley and didn't try to sell them to him, just said check them out, they have a website and for those actually interested in high quality audio it is worth a trip to their place for a demo. Does that disclosure suit you well enough?

The Danley products are well regarded, but have limited or no representation in this country. That would be a significant factor to anyone wishing to listen to or buy their products.

Some of the posts here have concentrated on personal preference (and that varies widely!) others recommend what they know or (sometimes) what they sell. The latter case is viewed with slight suspicion as the advice may be biased.

I'd hope that anyone advising a customer or colleague wishing to trade in a Nexo PS rig would determine what the existing problems are (and we've not established even whether the Nexos are being used correctly yet) what the band needs from its PA (SPL capability, coverage, format, weight, size etc.) and some idea of what the budget might be....

There isn't one UK user of Danley products so if you needed to hire more in your stuffed, and for the record the EM Quake sub is up there with the Danley subs for sure...

Ok first offf, we didn't blow any drivers, we had a couple of idiotic roadies clater the top ends down a little to hard, one of the got pissed dropped a speaker knackered a driveer and got sacked in that order. I've actually spoke with a nexo distributer who says the speakers are fragile.

I do the bands sound and I'm a firm believer in a 1000 cuts to one boost. I spend a long time getting the best out of each individual channel I eq and more of the same when everythings together.

thanks for the suggestion of daleny speakers, we will check them out. I noticed a few remarks slating the fact you guys distribute them but I bought my nexo rig on similar advice

I was very disappointed in the VRX - sounds good 30% off axis, upper mids and highs are way too hot on axis. EQ to fix it on axis, and it's mushy as hell off axis.

I'm told that the similar EAW box is much better, but I've not heard it.

I've not heard Danley's, but they are the boxes that I'd most like to hear.

Were you in the US, I'd recommend that you also look into jtrloudspeakers.com - unless of course they have distribution in your area.

At the end of the day you must buy something you like the sound of. Everybody has a slightly different opinion on what sounds best TO THEM. I must admit a lot of people would love your current system so dont be to hasty in any decisions you make. Perhaps you could employ a pro soundman for a gig and see how he makes it sound, you never know you could be surprised.

So let's go back to the beginning...

The drivers are expensive to replace and they are fragile

Any driver in a professional loudspeaker will be expensive to replace or repair. Buy BMW 7 series, pay BMW 7 series spares and repair prices. Replace crucial parts with non BMW items, and it doesn't work as it should any more.

I do not believe that the Nexo drivers are any more fragile than comparable units - despite the comments from the distributor! In fact, the Nexo controller does a good job protecting voice coils from going where they shouldn't physically and thermally.

You've now told us the speaker broke because it got dropped down the stairs. That's not 'fragile', that's abuse!

IMO the nexo rig dosn't project like some other pa's on the market

I would suggest that the dispersion pattern is designed to be different - an assymetric horn designed to cover a room in one box per side applications.

Compared with a more narrow dispersion unit, "projection" will be different.

The nexo is quite clinical sounding, it dosn't have that wolly band sound (excuse the expresion)

Perhaps a question of taste, but sometimes it's simply the sound of a PA reproducing what was put in without distortion - especially at higher sound pressure levels.

The oblong bins take up more space than an upright bin

OK - find a form factor that suits you, get some top boxes with more narrow dispersion for longer "throw*" (whilst still giving you the coverage needed for all your anticipated venue layouts) and make sure you have a) suitable processing & control and b) excellent sensitivity so you can get your headroom without brute force from the amplifiers.

Whatever you decide on, you will need to demo to make sure it's right for you. I would contact some of the hire companies in your locality and see what they can help you with...

Simon

*apologies in advance to Rob Beech...
