Hiring HMI fresnels

I have a show going into a large London venue in a few weeks time after a national tour, and I am having difficulty locating any HMI fresnels to hire. They are a major part of my design, so I'm desperate to find them, but I can compromise on numbers and/or power if I have to.

For the tour I had 2 1.2kW Arri Fresnels from White Light, and borrowed a 2kW Quartz Color from a colleague. White Light, Stage Electrics and Sparks all don't have *any* available at all for the dates I need them though. So at the moment I'm down to 1 2kW unit.

Does anyone have an idea of somewhere else I could try? I don't mind straying away from the conventional companies and looking at broadcast or film companies - though ideally I'd like to hire DMX shutters for the units too and doubt if the film companies would have these.

All advice welcome!!

I've been there, Andrew, and I feel your pain. The trouble is, as you've discovered, theatrical companies like WL don't have large stocks of film & telly stuff like HMI fresnels. The companies that do have large stocks of such things are the ones who service the needs of film & TV shoots, and who consequently charge film & TV rental rates which, when you're looking at a hire which runs for a longer period as theatrical productions do, can be absolutely crippling. It's also not so easy to find things like DMX shutters from these companies, as they're more of a theatrical thing.

All I can suggest is to try the film/TV rental houses to see what you can squeeze out of them. Also, it may be worth getting in touch with a couple of the big opera companies to see if they might be able to help you out - opera is a comparitively big user of HMI fresnels and associated shutterage, and if you're lucky you might find an opera company with a few lying dormant which they'd be happy to rent out to you.
