Sparx
I've just discovered the stockpile of old lights and "uneconomical to repair, but we'll keep them anyway" pile at work, along with the old smoke machine that packed in! Now, since needing a new light for our disco ball, I'm going to have a root through it all and see if I can find something to use - I know we have a MAC250 that doesnt remember its position, colour/gobo wheel goes mad and forgets where each individual colour/gobo is, etc. Would be fine for a disco ball light. Question is, can I fix its position and the gobo wheel somehow? I was thinking along the lines of removing some mechanical part to prevent the fixture moving, and then physically fixing the light in position - maybe wouldnt work due to the fixture trying to find home on startup... Wouldn't think of it as a bodge, more making use of what we have in the budget we have - I hate waste!
Jamtastic3
Remove the ribbons to each stepper of the attributes you want to stop working just by unplugging them. With most movers you may start getting error feedbacks on the side of the fixture but this shouldn't matter. Keeping the yoke locked into a position so it doesn't move may require some sort of external black tape job I think, but if the head isn't touched at all then it should hold it's pan position. The tilt would be dependant on how weight balanced the head unit is. Just out of interest, can you not get the fixture fixed? Some of the problems could be very basic problems that could be fixed with a tweek or two
blip2
Unplug the stepper motor. Cable ties on the pan/tilt belts should stop them moving too much.I feel your pain though, 16x 13y/o Mac250s, about 5 of them work and just don't have the budget to properly repair or replace them :/
AndyJones
I'll give you £100 for each broken Mac...

I'm only a lowly p/t lightjockey, so what do my opinions matter ;-) Cheers guys, I'll see if I can dig up another light otherwise I'll ask if I can have a go at this!
