Touring to France

Hi there, Im a student doing a hypothetical exercise where I have to take a tour to France, Ireland and Wales.

In the exercise I've got 2 Betapack 3s, and I have to tour into venues with just mains power. Any suggestions of how to power them? I was thinking of having a 62A to 13A jumper then just using a Euro Adapter, but I dont know if that would be safe/work.

Thanks a lot.

Hi!

Never seen a 62amp plug before!

You can of course jump down to a ring main if you have to.But what load are you going to have???

I think that you could asume (seeing as this is a project) that you can make up any power supply into the venue!

Wales, Ireland and France do use standard mains connections because of a fantastic thing called E.E.C Regs!

Do your home work before asking others to do it for you me thinks

and what type of venues would you be'going to' ?

Village halls, mult purpose halls, theatres, arenas?

and why would you be running a Betapack 3 on 13 amp!!

You can, of course if youve worked out your loading - if for example you had a PAR 64 on 3 channels and a Source 4 on the other 3, you will know what you could run max at any one point yeah ?!! B-)

Hmm, could be a trick question???

Perhaps your tutor or lecturer expects you to think out of the box and hire something locally? Probably/possibly save a bob or two in fuel or van hire or cover for foreign travel or anything really.

Just a suggestion of course but you could try to google up a French site on the power outlets for domestic arrangements...

That's probably as big a hint as you need?

Because that is all that's available?

There are buckets of small scale tours playing school and village halls who can rely on nothing more than a couple of 13A sockets.

I'd be wary of the euro-adapters sold for holiday use. Some aren't earthed at all and those that are don't always have a brilliant earth connection. (I'm surprised they are allowed to sell the unearthed type to Joe Public. Most people don't give a thought to it and assume that it's ok.)

When I've taken school bands to France I've had a shuko/French hybrid plug to a fused rubber 4-way trailing socket with a 5A fuse. This was adequate for sound equipment. I also took a 16A ceeform to a similar trailing socket. I used both. I also took a socket tester so I could check the state of the sockets.

The quality of supply is inevitably variable. Disneyland Paris checked our equipment very thoroughly before they let us use it. Another theme park provided us with a dangerous supply and got shirty when I refused to use it. They moved us to another venue in the park after some heated discussion.

I found the French electrics better than the Italian. Italy was a nightmare outside of the proper venues we played in.

Can't comment about the Betapacks except that you would need to be careful with loading.
