Tait - Glasgow

I did notice a few days ago that the website was "currently undergoing maintenance. Please come back soon."

Tait's is only a couple of hundred yards from my office and I pass it maybe once or twice a week - but hadn't realised it wasn't open. Hope all is OK - it's a useful source... but shutters and website down isn't a good sign.

Update:

Suspicions confirmed - "Creditors Voluntary Liquidation".

Pity - it was a good local source of bits and pieces....

Very sorry to see them go - very handy source of all sorts of things ... anything you could find in Maplin you could find at Tait's for half the price ;)

Seconded - always a good source of "stuff" but if I was honest I guess their time had come - they suffered the same drop as all PC builders / supplers of components now PC's come from Tesco, loss of manufacturing to the rising ecconomies and sad fact that no one has the time / skills to repair the current disposable electronics we all rely on.

Tait's security business (which has separate premises) has also closed.

I expect that they'll have been squeezed at two ends of their business: Consumers can now buy computers and accessories at Tesco et al for pretty reasonable prices. And people "in the trade" are getting most of their supplies from online or mail order sources which have far greater economies of scale and lower prices.

Everyone I've heard from only used Taits for bits and pieces that they needed at the last minute. I'm sure they must have struggled to make enough margin on that kind of business to sustain their operation.
