canuhackett
Hello All, I hope this finds you well. I am about to try and network the lighting & Sound Control with Q labs on a MAC Laptop. I also intend to have remote rigging control on the iPhone. Does anyone see a problem with this? Thanks
IRW
Hello All, I hope this finds you well. I am about to try and network the lighting & Sound Control with Q labs on a MAC Laptop. I also intend to have remote rigging control on the iPhone. Does anyone see a problem with this? Thanks I think a bit more detail is required here- why do you need to network lighting and sound? Edited to add...just read the sub title, I can't see any problem with your remote rigging control if the Palette supports it- are you planning on remote controlling the sound as well? J Pearce
I have a Palette and use wifi to my phone for riggers remote (using the onboard webserver and the files from stranddev.com) and to my laptop for programming (OLE in remote mode). I also ocassionally use Multiplay to send telnet commands to the Palette so that audio, video and lights can all be controlled from one cuelist. What are you trying to achieve? ceecrb1
I see no "problem" with it.. infact I'm a great fan of such "toys" which help you speed up your work (eg being on stage listening to monitors and remotely manipulating the ls9.. GREAT toy!). BUT I will also warn you that dont try to rely on it in a "live" moment ie, mid gig....The weak link in the system will always be your pc.. it will always decide to crash at the worst moment. I used mine linked to my ls9 on a 3 day gig recently.. and about once or twice a day the network would disconnect itself.. then just before the most important part of the event it decided to pack up completely.. needing a restart which I had no time to do.. so had to be without the studio manager.. not a problem at all for me.. but if you are going to depend on it.. its something to think about. kmaigskmal
make sure u have a working network of ips and no ip conflicts its a pain in the ass to find out u cant get something to work just because ur ips are wrong always make sure u have a network that can carry the number of ips u need as well ie. u need 8 workable ips but ur ip network can only support 6 I would talk to somone very computer savy as in works daily setting up networks before u start I work with minor ip networks every so often and that can be a headache to set up cause u hav to make sure each item has its own ip they are all working through the same gateway (essentially a virtial meetig ground) and subnetmask is the same the only one that will even look different is the subnetmask also dont assume ur comp will automatically connect u have to program ur computer to synch. using wifi I have found is a little easier when it comes to this stuff but it does also depend on how u program it as for reliabillity cat 5 reliable wifi can be tempramental it all depends on router placement and the capabillities of the router and the individual componets ur connecting to also u have to look at wat ur doing ur network chances are will not coincide with the other networks u commonly connect to so u have to also make sure that if u need to have multipul networks on ur computer they are there ie. lan for network, wifi for internet, and a second wifi for ur network at home this is realitivly easy to do on 7 and vista as long as u know wat kinda networks u need and wat goes to wat also make sure that u can use the proper program if u cant seem to get the program to work try ping first in command prompt (this will tell u if ur even connected to the component) and telnet (this will tell u if u can give it commands) srry just read the subtitles should be fairly easy setup. depending on the router u use.
