ceecrb1
an old AKG D190 has come into my possession for free (& legally! wins all round!) seems to be in very good condition for its age, been well looked after! As I´ve never used one in "the heat of battle"... How do people find it? where have you used one successfully and where was it utterly useless for you? Hoping it can be a little more than just desk coms/talkback mike but if thats all its good for.. well it was free so I'll not complain!
paulears
I used a pair of these in the 70s and they were rather nice - they're a bit sensitive up top, so tend to sizzle a bit, but a pretty good all-rounder - and nice looking if the grill's in good shape. dbuckley
I have a couple of these, bought when they were a current mic, and they've done most of their time in front of guitar combos.
andy_s
a good versatile robust mic. Use where you might think of using a '57. a pair were used as show relay pick-up mics at the Arts Theatre in days gone by, built into the false pros. (which I think was removed about 10 yrs ago). Not an obvious choice, but it is such a small stage they worked pretty well.

The security surrounding the president is quite impressive. There have been a few stories over at PSW concerning the problems associated with "doing sound" for the president. It did always occur to me that given several of the SM series mics already had a semi solid goo in the handle, it wouldn't take much to fill the empty handle with a plastic explosive and detonate remotely (possibly via phantom power?!). No doubt the security experts have thought through the same scenario... Back on topic, the D190 was quite a good mic, but I always saw it used in AV situations - I had never considered using it for instrument pickup... PLAZA / Grahame
I still use AKG D109s & some RS badged versions, mostly for the brass on big bands. A usefull mic provided the insert is in good order.
