congo5
Hi, For a set we are Building for 'Rock Challenge' we would like to add a spinning Disc to the front of the set. The spinning disc has a spiral on the front. We would like the spinning disc to spin via a battery powered motor. ( We tried a mirror ball motor but, it's a little bit too slow ) Any Idea's were we can get one from ? If we could get one with a variable speed, that would be fantastic. Many thanks in advance Tom

Fantastic Idea, However it needs to be mounted inside a Box Flat, It also needs to be handsfree. Oviousley a switch to turn the spinner on, but apart from the switch, hands free. themadhippy
maplins etc for the motor,if you can solder an LM317 makes a simple speed controller.
MarkPAman
Search for "geared DC electric motor" I don't know how fast you want it to run. This on is 20 rpm You'll need to think about how to mount it & attach your disc.
Unfathomable
cordless drill, small clamp and some gaffer to keep the switch down...
sleah
cordless drill, small clamp and some gaffer to keep the switch down... Better still... a corded drill small clamp and some gaffer to keep the switch down...Then you can control the on/off remotely, rather than it be on the moment you gafer the switch on.... What part of "battery powered" didn't I understand..... :** laughs out loud **: I guess you could butcher said cordless drill to wire in a simple on/off switch :D

J Pearce
Will a year 7 and a handle not do the trick? :PMy set is all finished for Rock Challenge, which is good as we compete on Wednesday! Anyone got a meccanno set spare? Or lego technics? Failing that a 12V motor, and a potentiometer should do the trick. The motor shouldn't need to be too beefy if its only spinning a cardboard disc. It would be a lie if I said that the multiple quote that is building up wasn't the main reason for my response.... but would a remote control car do the job? Use the remote to spin the wheel? E2A: I put this inside the quotes by accident, there were just too many!
congo5
I hint a bit of Unprofessionalism. Not only are Drills Noisy and Disrupting to the Dancers it's also a bit of a bodge job, However I've found a Motor and 12v Battery from Maplin which will do a perfect job. With an easy way to attach the disk? With speed control? Gearbox? And a charger? And, if you are careful when you adapt it to the show, (remembering how to put it back together) a free cheap drill? Thought not!
Unfathomable
with the amount of noise (music?) on stage during RC events, I doubt you could hear a drill, or a jet engine. (is it just me that really doesn't enjoy those events?)
