lampy lady
HiI'm sorry if this has been covered else ware but I couldn't quite find what I'm looking for.For a performance in a couple of weeks I have been asked to provide a live video feed from a Sony handycam HDR-XR155. I have very limited budget, I need to be able to have a cable length of approximately 5m and am running it to a Mac book pro before projecting. Dose anyone have any tips on adapters or cabling I need and any software that would be helpful. Thank youthe camera is fixed I think but if push came to shove I could use a pc lap top the Mac is generally easier for me to use.Thank you very much for any help you can give me. timd
Why does it need to go through a laptop, could you not just run the video out from the camera into the projector direct? How important is syncing the video feed with the live action, and will any sound be involved?
lampy lady
There is no sound involved. We have a built in system from matrix I am not aloud to touch the projector also it’s in such an awkward place I wouldn't be able to get to it. The easiest way to input in to the projector is through one of the hardwired cat 5 inputs the simplest of these seemed to be through the laptop otherwise I guess we could input directly by pretending the camera is the DVD player or something but then we would need cabling of about 30m to get to the control box.my understanding is they want the feed to be synced as closely as possible as the audience can see them setting up and "filming" the shots as well as the camers footage Thanks
timd
In which case the only cheap way to do it would be by running a length of coax cable direct. Any conversion to digital through a laptop and out to VGA would almost certainly have a horrible case of lag, and might run into choppiness if the laptop can't source enough computing power to deal with it. Added to which, a decent interface won't come cheap. No such problems with a direct analogue cable run, stick a DMX shutter in front of the projector for a convincing blackout. AHYoung
just unplug the dvd player and plug the camera into that cable with a bit of coax . you wont have a problem with the cable length and you can buy a 30m length of cheap bnc cable from cpc for a tenner and you can get a couple of bnc - phon sockets while you are at it, anything that involves a laptop will introduce very noticable delays. dont mess about with a DMX shutter unless you need a blackout in an a blackout, just close the lenscover...
