Hi Guys,

Right, in a bit of trouble here...

Painted the stage last night with albany oil based paint (black). Tin claimed a drying time of 4 hours and ready to recoat in 16 hours. Well its been 14 hours now and if you attempt to walk on it you stick. The problem part is that we have a band arriving in an hour and a half. Anyone with any suggestions of any unknown trick to make this dry quicker, or a suggestion for something to use to cover it without causing huge amounts of damage, please get in touch.

Cheers,

Phil

Local am-drams had this, think their final solution involved large sheets of black paper and gaffer tape!

You may find that if the stage has been painted several times in the past, it could have reacted with a lower layer of paint of a different type. I can't remember the 2 types that react. Fair guess that previous coats will have been black emulsion though.

If it is a reaction, it may never dry!

Our fire officer doesn't like us using anything other than water-based paint anywhere in the building.

When we did our outdoor tour, though, last summer, the director insisted on the wooden railings that formed the bulk of the set being painted in white gloss. Unfortunately that was just at the time when it was hot all the time and it took 3 weeks for the paint to dry. I know this becuase the paiting was done with just under a week to the first night and over 2 weeks into the tour I carried a fence panel from the van and onto the performance space then looked down to find white paint on my jeans. Annoying bl00dy thing! ;)

Can't believe it, the stuff still aint dry. Its still tacky, 36ish hours after the fact. Last night ended up being a gig on the back of an old black tab, today is a get in with a set that will in all likelihood need chilesing off the floor. Oh well, looks like I'll be repainting again next week.
