Epson lamp problem

Hello All,

I have an Epson EMP-830 projector.

Lamp ignites ok, but after 10 mins goes out. The power light turns red and the lamp light flashes red.

As the manual says, this means that there is a lamp problem.

Thing is, I've never known a discharge lamp to ignite everytime and then extinguish .

Does anyone know if this is a problem that will be solved with a new lamp ?

I'm loathed to buy one at £350 a pop if it is likely to be something else.

Mal.

Sounds like you have a fracture in the lamp

so basically its works fine the lamp heats up the fracture expands then lamp turns off cools down and works again

so yeah new lamp should fix the issue

Agreed, we have 4 of these projectors and I've seen that fault a couple of times at least. A new lamp and it'll be as good as new.

Hi there

really random question but does it have a scrolling filter in this unit?

If so have you tried to reset the filter hours and wind the scroller back on it

No. Must admit, not really my area, but why would you want (or need) a scrolling filter in a projector ?

If it is in an area that has lots of dust and stuff in the air, or if it is rigged in the roof, or hard to get at it means the filter doesnt need to be changed or cleaned as ofter as it scrolls along. They usually have 9 filter scrolls in the cartridge. Once it has run through though the bulb will strike so the filter count can be reset, usually if this is not done it will turn the projector off again to protect itself

Thanks chaps,

New lamp ordered.

hi,

I'm intrigued to know whether the new lamp has solved the problem... do please let us know! I'm sure stevefez and scalpersnow are right but this type of behaviour can also be caused by overheating, which could be due to reduced airflow (broken fan - some projectors have more than one, dirty and clogged filters)... I think thats what some of the later posts are getting at.

best of luck..

Very true. Fairly sure this projector doesn't have a scrolling filter, but overheating due to blocked 'normal' filters could certainly be an issue. In truth it could be a combination of all of the above.

EDIT: SPAG

hey Mr Boomal did you reboot your projector and put your counter on zero again? because sometimes it might come from this forgetting. Btw, if you do not want to pay for expensive original lamps you can try compatible ones, I've tried them once for my OPTOMA EP781 from http://www.justprojectorlamps.co.uk that provides both and it seems to have the same brightness the same life ! Feel free to let me know if you choose this kind of product, I'm looking forward to receiving any feedback!

New lamp did solve the problem.

And I did remember to reset the lamp counter. Although I thought that was more for reference, with the projector displaying the lamp light to indicate that you were coming to the end of it's recommended life, rather than it actually physically interfering with operation.
