MirageTool
Hi,I was wondering if any one could offer me advice on what stage monitors to buy, here is a little background information. The usage will be for a solo artist / duo using backing tracks singing 60's 70' motown etc.The front of house system is going to be 2 x rcf 705's and 2 x rcf 322's.Stage area is approx 3m x 2m. The monitors will not be used very oftern so would like them as cheap as possible but still getting a reasonable sound on stage. I do have a Yamaha EMX660 powered mixer that I can use to drive the monitors if they are passive or active would be better if the quality is good enough for the buget. Like I mentioned I would not be using these so oftern so the buget is £300. Any Advice ? Thaks Phil.
Simon Lewis
To be honest, £300 doesn''t buy you very much at all - let alone "quality". You might find some smallish 8" / 10" monitors that will work. However, I would suggest you consider getting the musicians to use their earbuds of choice and connect these to a couple of headphone amplifiers to make a wired IEM system. A wireless IEM would be somewhat more expensive, but using cheap wedges means you will always have less than optimal sound!
Doug Siddons
I've just supplied a client with anLD 10 with these for a similar application and whilst bit unsubtle does the job.

Tivoli Phil
Can't believe I'm about to admit to this, but I have a couple of these on demo at the moment and I am ridiculously impressed with them, especially for the price. Would come in well under budget for a pair, although they are passive. Could even go for a couple of the 10" versions (still sound good, just not quite as good on the bass end unsurprisingly) for £160.00 + postage. The guy selling them seems like a nice bloke (met up with him in Bristol to pick up speakers) who really wants to make a name for the product, and they are planning to expand the range soon. TimmyP1955
Maybe look at something like the Mackie SRM 350 or SRM 450.... they work ooook as stage monitors to be fair The 450s love to thermal when used as wedge monitors, even when the level is pretty nominal. No troubles when standing up as mains or sidefills.

ojc123
These might be worth a look. I use them as monitors for a slightly larger stage. They are fairly bombproof and stand student abuse. They are a bit heavy. They are quite loud enough for 17 year old heavy metal bands, and sound good for the price. They have two mic inputs with independent volume controls; makes them quite versatile.
