rossmck
There's the obvious method, but that takes 6 months and may not go down well with the actor.. :P It depends how realistic it needs to be - quite a few costumes suppliers will be able to provide something - Eve Lowrie (propmaker) I think offers them custom made for sale/hire... I've seen it done in amateur shows simply with an appropriate rounded 'cushion' usually made by someone within in the company from a couple of round pieces of fabric stuffed with pillow stuffing to the required size which is then strapped to the actor. w/robe
I'm afraid it will always look naff as the audience know that your actress is unlikely to be 6 months pregnent and it is even worse if she has to become pregnent half way through the play. So make the bump as small as you can possibly get away with unless you are going for comedy. I build them up from layers of wadding on a tight T-shirt or body which are stab stitched to hold them in place and then the whole thing covered in jersey. Get you actress to wear another tight-ish T-shirt over the top to smooth out the shape and then make sure her costume is not trousers and preferably a dress.
