PS8 Advice

Hi, I know this has probably been covered tons of times, but I did a search and did not find what I needed.. Anyway..

I am getting a PS-8 System to put in a bar. The system only has a controller and no amp so I would like to know a good selection of Amps that you would recommend to use with the PS8 and the LS400. As the system is an install and not travelling weight is not much of an issue..

As ever, thanks in advance.

Would anyone recommend the QSC GX5?

I wouldn't recommend the GX5 for PS8s. Its a budget amp, not really what you want to be using on good quality gear.

I used some GX3s a couple of years back and had terrible crosstalk problems, which would probably confuse the nexo controller, and whilst they amplified, the sound was a bit brittle and lacked depth. I much preferred the very cheap thomann own brand amps that lived in the same rack...

For an install you could do worse than some second hand big heavy amps. A lot of companies are getting rid of the old Crown VZs and the like to replace them with modern, lighter, alternatives. There are some bargains out there.

Thanks, J Pearce,

I need to bring this in on a limited budget and am looking for "Atractively Priced" alternatives to be sure..

Any thoughts on the CROWN LPS2500?

How about some old c audio amps? I have always been a big fan of them and currently own 3 sr606's. They are a heavey amp but are pretty much bulet proof and are now selling very cheap. Last week I picked up a 606 for £140.

I'm afraid if you skimp on the quality of your amplification your Nexo's will not sound anywhere near as good as they should. Remember the PS8 is a £900 box new (just for 1, not a pair), and if you include half the price of a controller (which you have to have) is more like a £1200 box.

Your best bet is as J Pearce said; second hand high quality amplification. I think he hit the nail on the head with the Crown MacroTechs, they sound AMAZING on PS8s, are reliable and VERY gutsy. Failing that possibly some second hand C-Audio (as Fogg suggests), or old Lab Gruppen or Camco.

QSC PLX series should be fine on PS series cabs. You'll find they are very reliable, and meet their specifications accurately, unlike a lot of the above mentioned products :)

Hi, Tall Mike, I did look at the other suggestions, especially the C-Audio and the MacroTechs, but it seemed that all the amps did not match the speaker's specs. I might be wrong in thinking so, but I would rather have power to spare than the other way around.. I cannot believe, however, how much C-audio amps are going for.
