Eastcoast Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I bought a Sennheiser E845s last week which included the puch and mic clip. It sounds reasonable but it suffers from handling noise. Is this correct and is there anything else which I can check? Rob
paulears Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 The 835/845 are not normally prone to this - you didn't perchance buy it on ebay did you?
Brian Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I've got a load of 845s and have no problems with this. As Paul hints at, is this a real 845?

Matt Riley Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Weight is the big factor. Also pickup pattern and voicing. If you consult sennheiser they can help. I had the misfortune of foolishly buying one off ebay a couple of years ago, and it exhibited very similar symptoms. I had 2 authentic ones to compare them to, and the fake had higher handling noise, a slightly different grill length, a lighter finish which was painted on and came off easily. It also exhibited a more cardiod pickup pattern, and the case looked different, made out of a shiny material instead of the matte, hardwearing nylon which the normal case has.

The pouch looks genuine, and the weight feels good.
StevieR Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Price can be another give-away. Genuine e845's are retailing for approx £90 - £95 inc vat. If you paid significantly less for yours then again it may indicate that it is a fake. Steve

If you paid significantly less for yours then again it may indicate that it is a fake. Steve The seller had sold 400 items since 2005 and had 100% positive feedback. I'm not 100% that it is a fake. The pouch and mic clip and box all look genuine. The handling noise is the only thing of concern. What's the best approach here, assuming I haven't overlooked anything?
boswell Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Try and return it and get your money back, If it was sold as new and was less than £85-90 than 10:1 it is a fake.If it is 2nd hand then I can't advise re fake, but try and return it. depends on what it was advertised as. fully working, need of repair etcAll the genuine online retailers are selling them new for around £90,If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is! And the 100% feedback can be faked ! and its self is doubtful, 400 sales with not 1 complaint, don't think so.
ojc123 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Boswell's advice is good. Another option is to ask yourself if your microphone is good value, if you think it is then keep it and put it down to experience. Use a reputable supplier next time. Sennheiser have an anonymous fake reporting facility. You could use that to ensure no-one else is caught out..
paulears Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Virtually all Shure SM57,58 and Sennheisers on ebay are counterfeit. They suppliers are also now selling them as 'B' stock, or 'as new - used once'. They're ok mics - they work and if you paid £40 for it, you've got a £40 mic. Thousands of people have them and don't know - until they put them side to side with the real ones. Thomann sell their own version of the counterfeit 57, except it's branded with their own label and number - and people are quite happy with them. Your local small music shop, cannt sell Shures and Sennheisers at anywhere near ebay prices, so where would ebay sellers get stock cheap enough to sell at this discount? Certainly not Shure and Senneiser!
Eastcoast Posted December 12, 2010 Author Posted December 12, 2010 I'm not sure about this!! The pouch and mic holder look genuine and the pouch is lined. The mic head has the small rubber 'O' ring where it meets the head The small screw on the on & off switch turns and works. Against this: Handling noise No warranty card Instruction lead supplied but looks colour copied Apart from the weight is there anything else to check to verify if it's genuine as I don't to p**s off the seller
dan slv-tech Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 A Pic might be useful I have 4 E845 in our rental stock, as said before quiet, and low handling noise. As I remember they dont come with any leads, nor is the pouch "padded" its a material based pencil case type thing. dan
paulears Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 There's an ebay page detailing some of the things to watch for - the weight being probably the easiest to chceck if you have accurate scales handy. You have the option if the seller is a business seller, to just ask for a refund and send it back. If you ask if it is genuine, they may just say yes - leaving you stuck. If you don't like it (which you don't) just email them and say you're sending it back and don't get into a 'why' battle.
adamski1010 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 What did you pay for it? If it was less than £75/85 new then you can be sure its fake. Take some pictures and send them to Sennheiser, they will tell you.
