steveBP Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Hi Guys I'm setting up a pa system in a small / medium sized venue. The main room is about 14m by 14m. I have a truss at 4.5m high a couple of meters forward from the stage. Max capacity = 300 people. I am intending to use the venue for speach, and medium size performances. I have 3 pairs of EV EVID wall speakers to cover speach and was intending to fly a pair of EV EVF1222/60 or ZX3 on the truss, though I did some tests with smaller speakers and am now wondering if 2 pairs of 8" speakers (say ZX1s) as 2 small arrays would be a better option. The ZX1s are a bit cheap and I'm worried about the sound quality and pattern control. Can anyone please reccomend any reasonable quality 8" array speakers. Thanks Steve

back_ache Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 The ZX1s are a bit cheap and I'm worried about the sound quality and pattern control. The ZX1's are a great little speaker in the right application, but I don't believe being your main FOH pair as the right place and would keep with your original choice of the EVF series as they should be good in that role. If it is not too late, I use the ZX1's to instead replace the evid's Too complete your ev system, (if you have any budget left) the dc-one is a nice controller.
steveBP Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Thanks, I've heard a lot about the DC-One. I was going to use a driverRack 260 as it had the ability for the RTA mic and Pink noise monitoring (not that I've got one). I don't think that the DC-One has this capability but after speaker matching, EQ and delay does it have any other features to improve the sound in the environment ?
back_ache Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 after speaker matching, EQ and delay does it have any other features to improve the sound in the environment ? nope, that's it. It just does 2-in 6-out (with individual parametric's on all the ins and outs), an overall 31 band equaliser and individual delays on all the outs.
