racingsnake
Hi all I'm looking for a bit of tech help with some repairs to lodestars Firstly 0.5 ton model F. Problem is the following: When the pickle is pressed, either up of down, the brake coil is working fine, and lifting the brake plates, however the motor refuses or struggles to turn. With the brake plate pack removed the motor does spin up, all be it a little sluggish to start I have checked all of the obvious faults, loose wires, missing phase etc. I have also checked the transformer, fuses, contactor, and using the cm manual checked the resistance of the motor coils, which seems a little odd, as the book states that they should be 24 ohms between YG - YB, YB - YBL etc. I am getting 15 ohms, could this mean that the motor windings are damaged? I also have a similar but more serious problem with a 1 ton model L Basically when ever the hoist is plugged in to a supply, it blows the local MCB. I have been through all of the components and cant seem to find a fault. Is it all possible for motor windings to break down and short to earth ? There seems to be no signs of burning or shorting marks on what I can see of the back of the motor. . Lastly I am trying to find out who is the supplier of cm parts now. I understand there has been some arsing about by Pfaff and AC lighting ? who is the importer of parts?? Im not prepared to buy from a middle man who loads the prices thanks

Simon Lewis
I'm looking for a bit of tech help with some repairs to lodestars I must admit.... if I was having one of my Lodestars mended, I'd be more than a little worried if the repair person had to ask for help on the internet... adamwb
I forgot to mention, All AC rigging engineers are CM trained and AC have one of only three CM approved engineers in the UK (under a new CM training scheme) As I said, we have the ability to help and always happy to do so! But I do see where you're coming from. AC riggingAnother call I'd be thinking about making, if I were the OP, would be to LTM.
Simon Lewis
Teensy bit harsh perhaps. But I do see where you're coming from. Sorry to the OP if it does appear a little harsh, but I would have thought that insulation testing as well as coil resistance should be part of routine test and measurement? themadhippy
but I would have thought that insulation testing as well as coil resistance should be part of routine test and measurement?maybe for a sparky, but if the op is a mechinical engineer it might be outside there normal area of expertesas the book states that they should be 24 ohms between YG - YB, YB - YBL etc. I am getting 15 ohmwhich could be ok, if your using a multimeter to test then your measuring the DC resisatance, the book could be stating the impedance, something slightly diffrent
