paulears
I thought I posted this yesterday, but can't find it - so probably forgot to hit post! I just received my membership reminder for the ABTT, but apart from the magazine, I don't seem to have had any benefits - the only one I used frequently was the forum, which although switched on, isn't used. It suffered a nasty spam attack and ABTT seems to have abandoned it? I'm going to lapse my membership after all these years - which is a bit sad - but I think they've lost the plot now. I just can't see any benefit to me of being a member. even their facebook group has this as the last post. ABTT ABTT NorthNet Celebrates its 40th Anniversary on 21st October. Members old, new and current can join in a celebratory Tea Party and The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester between 12 midday and 2 pm.20 October at 16:

I too have been a member for years, but lapsed this year for the same reason. Had no interest in seeing other venues with long runner shows, or any of the courses (although have arranged for venues I've managed in the past..) Was thinking about restarting this year, until the renewal came in for the MD and saw the price hike!!
Ynot
Hmmm... © We'd actually just decided to get the theatre registered as a coroporate member as we were looking at maybe taking some training courses for some of the up and comers...
gareth
I did the same a couple of years ago - having been a member of the ABTT for several years, I finally realised I couldn't justify paying my subs every year just for four issues of "Sightline" (which is the only thing I ever really got out of my ABTT membership - and which I can read in work anyway!). They talk about making it "more relevant" - to be honest, dragging the ABTT into the 21st century and making it more relevant to the majority of people working in technical theatre is going to take more than a survey and a bit of a re-think. steve1159
As another member for many years I have also let my membership lapse. Although sightline can be interesting it does not warrant the membership. Equally the move of their training to their bronze, silver and gold awards is fine to a degree but is not much use for those that are just looking for individual courses. Equally a lot of their training seems to be based around their summer school which is about the worst possible time of year for us. In respect of the forum those of us that have been around since the blue room started will recall that it grew out of the poor signal/noise ratio on the ABTT and I think most people within the industry that use forums prefer the blue room over the ABTT. This has then been reflected in the continuing decline in the use of the ABTT forum
Brian
...four issues of "Sightline" ...Or as some people call it 'Seating'.
David Ripley
Steve The ABTT will run training if requested and it is financially viable. Although much of our training is based around the Awards (because the theatres that send people on them like accredited courses) we will look at other short courses. Let me know via PM what kinds of things you are after and we can look at it - this applies to everyone. Our next meeting is next Fri (28th Jan) and I'd be happy to put these to the committee Thanks DavidVice Chair ABTT Training and Education Committee
