How could I get the constant effect or at least random effect of wind / a light breeze phisically blowing on stage.

The scene I am trying to bring wind to is for a play set in a meadow. I would like the grass to have a slight breeze on it and maybe the occassional leaves blowing across.

 

Is this possible to create and more importantly , would it be loud?

Would it not be possibly to keep it as simple as placing some floor standing fans in the wings on the side you want the wind to blow from?

If you want to vary it a little bit im sure you could have someone changing the fan speed or blocking / unblocking the fan.

Depends on the size of the stage, obviously, but to get air moving over a large distance is likely to require large, noisy fans
