mkfs9
qsc pl230 and cs 4080. I could run just the 4080 and put subs one side and tops on the other 1020 watts per cab. Or bridge a pl 230 for the subs 1500 each. and use the cs 4080 at 8 ohns a side for tops 1250 per cab.
TonyMitchell
Just got my new to me system, srx 715's over 718 subs. how many people would this cover. That will depend largely on how you deploy them. The MHF boxes have a recessed dual angle polemount socket, so to maximise coverage, get them up well above head height and point them down. They''re 75deg.(h) Whilst at 95-96dB/1m these SRX boxes win no prizes for efficiency, they're quite a nice sounding system if you give them some welly. Like all JBL boxes, they're power hungry. I've heard and would prefer 712s over 718s, although having the 715s enables you to use these as full range boxes in very small venues. They perform at their best with the MHF boxes run active. Be mindful you're not going to get much more than 124dB continuous out of them, so for live work your headroom is limited. These subs will play quite high, so experiment with crossing over LF to low-mid a little higher than you may be used to, so the subs take care of all the kick drum "thump" and bass guitar "energy". Then don't be surprised if you come back and tell us you've decided to double up on your LF boxes :P
mkfs9
Thanx for the replies. We do intend eventualy to get another pair of the subs, but initially this was a system for smaller venues easily put up by one person. We do have 2x18 subs and heavier top cabs for larger gigs but nothing is a one man lift. So how many people indoor gig could ths cover.
TonyMitchell
So how many people indoor gig could ths cover. If you do what I've suggested in my earlier post, that setup should be good for up to 300 people in a wedding/private party environment (which seems to be what you're about, having looked at your website). At those type of functions, as I'm sure you're aware, it's not about high SPLs throughout the room - as long as it's fairly loud on the dancefloor and people elsewhere can comfortably hear themselves talking, everyone will be happy. Also the number of people at these events is somewhat academic - at most weddings for 200 people, you wouldn't fit 200 people on the small dancefloor provided! The system you've got there is far superior to what a lot of wedding/party bands carry around, where the kit's not miked up at all and FOH is simply a pair of tatty Peaveys on sticks. If you're in a good sized marquee, take some more LF.
mkfs9
Ok. Thanx for that. Now to take it one step further, would I gain much if I got a dbx driverack to process this kit. I only use a basic two way x over at present. I do have low cut and hpf,s on the amps and eq/s.

If you want to run the 715s active, then you'll need a 3-way crossover or an LMS, the latter is nicer as you get a lot of additional functionality in a 1U box. Whilst the dbx GUI isn't the nicest/simplest, as it's also from the Harman stable, it's a good match for the SRX kit, with default tunings available to download free at http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/general/technicallibrary.aspx Alternatively, if you want to save a few pounds, look at the Behringer DCX2496, pretty much universally accepted as one of their "better" products and the sound will be just as good. If you go the LMS route, you'll still want to keep an analogue twin 31 band graphic at FOH to grab 'on demand'.
