cing56 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I have a set of lights that we use for school productions (8 lights on 2 portable stands, 2 work WDP 8 DMX units and a eurolite FD-12DMX dimmer panel). The eurolite dimmer panel has blown and I need to replace it. Can I replace it with a eurolite FD-8DMX dimmer panel ? Or is there another alternative anyone can suggest? I was growled at when I suggested the school needed to fund this, so I guess the budget is low...Any suggestions welcome!
paulears Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 It's cheap, cheerful and will do the job - if the job is just prodding a fader and seeing the light brighten up. It's a bit tough if the school don't see this as a necessary expense to enable the creative department to actual do things!
boatman Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 "The eurolite dimmer panel has blown" could mean a lot of things. Has it really gone into self-destruct mode or is it just not working? If it's the latter then check the external power supply, or try a 9V battery to see if the controller is still functional.

This was followed by a smell of burning and some smoke... I took it to a lighting shop earlier who said it would probably be better to buy a new one as it was likely to be unfixable. A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. It's cheap, cheerful and will do the job - if the job is just prodding a fader and seeing the light brighten up. paulears Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I've always found cancelling the christmas concert because you don't have any lights quite effective - especially if you can argue it's a repair which could easily come from your borken windows/unsafe electrical socket/leaking tap budget - after all, you could argue that if the light switch in your classroom breaks, that wouldn't come out of your budget, would it?
Junior8 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 The set up is useless without it and at £88 it's really only petty cash. Nothing else comes in cheaper as far as I can find. (Overspent until next Easter? You aren't a PFI school by any chance are you?)
cing56 Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Thanks for your advice everyone. I've been given the goahead to buy a new dimmer panel :) :(
Ashley R Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Thanks for your advice everyone. I've been given the go ahead to buy a new dimmer panel :) :P Well whilst you at it you might want to add onto that the cost of repairing the damaged one. If economical in comparison to buying a new one. Then you will end up with 2 :) Edit: Spelling
