Portable Staging

I am involved in running music and ares events in our local community resource centre. I recently borrowed some portable staging from our local primary school which worked brilliantly but a pain to transport across the village.

I am therefore looking to purchase a similar stage. I have trawled the internet and found it similar to a Unistage 24 unit, 360mm high package which stacks on a trolley in a spiral fashion.

Does anyone know of similar staging? The one I've seen is circa £3.5K but I will need to check for alternatives. The scissor type systems would not be suitable.

Thanks in anticipation of your wisdom,

Staging and storage always go together. The school stuff you have is pretty good really - price wise it holds it's own against other staging - which although often rated to carry more weight has far more tricky storage issues because of the weight and space. Price for price last time I worked it out there was a small advantage in 1mx2m decking of the Metrodeck type - but it's still heavy and awkward and eats up floor space when stored. The spiral store facility of the lightweight stuff could easily make it work best for you.

Hi

http://www.stagesystems.co.uk/ do similar staging so could compare prices with them. If you badger them they will also sell you just the metal frames and you can get the wooden tops cut by a good timber yard - When I priced up some units stagesystems were charging £50 + VAT for a 750mm sq 18mm ply! You would have to sand/varnish them up yourself though.

I ended up with Topdeck - cheaper than Metrodeck and more sturdy than the Unistage stuff, but definitly a 2 man job to set up seating.

Hope that helps

QBuild every time for me in these situations. It looks good, kids can handle it, you can use it for all sorts of things apart from staging and it stores in a tidy footprint on trolleys. Like all these things it always seems to cost a lot more than it should though - and it usually comes out more expensive than competitors. AJS do their own brand which is very similar in concept and they offer some kits. Looked at the Metrodeck for a contact recently it came out cheaper but wasn't I felt as 'user-freindly' in multi-user venues.

I have used Qbuild and its great given its size etc.

I am also a fan of the stage the lancelyn do a wooden frame and you top with some 3/4inch.

Depends how high you want to go.

Hi,

In case you are still looking - I do some volentary work at a local school they use a staging system called stackastage, quick to deploy and fits on a trolley. They do various kits for comparison can be seen at http://www.stackastage.com. Hope you find something

---Just realised this thread is 6 months old. Darn revivers!!!---

If price is the biggest factor you'll actually do well to beat second hand Steeldeck.

Yes, it's heavy, but a lot of it's getting sold off to be replaced with Litedeck / Metrodeck as it needs less crew so works out cheaper to the companies.

Also second hand Cuplok scaffolding is a good start for building temporary stages. One of this country's best stage companies uses that stuff and it's quite cheap bought used. You need some carpentry skills though.
