daveymuso
Hi I am currently testing some 2x Nexo PS15s, 1 LS1200 sub & TD mk11 controller - with a view to buying. I am well impressed and am going to buy them. The rig has the Crown Mac Tech MA3600VZ with it if I want it. It is running the 15s in mono on 1 channel, & the sub on the other channel. Problems... The amp is too heavy & is only pushing 750w to each ps15. On researching - I have discovered the crown XLS2500. If I buy 2 of these @ 4.9kg each one will run the sub bridged mono with loads of headroom. The other will run the ps15s bridged momo at 1100w each ps15. Bottom line: at under 10kgs I will be running my rig with much more power!! (cost of £1200) Has anybody got any experience of these amps? Will the sound be as good? Anyone ran Nexos off this range? Is there a better amp? I would be very grateful if someone could comment and help me out with this decision... nb705
There's always the Tecton range of amps. Reasonably light, camco brand name.
daveymuso
theres always the crowns???? lighter & cheaper... or are they crap?
i_hate_fisicks
Probably. You get what you pay for! Macrotechs are workhorses. They just go on and on.
ChazHS
If you are going to invest in Nexo cabinets you should invest in decent amps or you won't be doing your speakers justice. You could go for Powersoft, Crown Macrotechs or the Camco, also I've seen people use QSC PLXs on Nexo stuff and thats always sounded pretty good. daveymuso
the macro tech is possibly out of the equation now as during testing we discovered an issue... After 45 mins of playing we suddenly get shedloads of distortion through both ps15s :P:( even if we are not up at clipping level. When this occurs there is no clipping or response from the controller or amp which is very worrying. Initially I thought it may have been the grill as there is a missing magnet, however on remopving it it still did it! We are thinking/hoping it as not the cabs or the controller and are going to try another amp before we buy the speakers. A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. On doing some research I have concluded that the camco options would be either; 1. a v2.6 in mono on the bins & a v2.6/v4 on the tops (2.6 mono/ v4 stereo) OR 2. just one v6 (one side driving bins, 1 driving ps15s in mono) I am seeing second hand v6s for around £1300 which is only £100 more than I was budjeting for the two cheap crowns... the only worry is that 22nd hand maybe old & knackered from a hire company! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm :)
ben-collins
I've seen people use QSC PLXs on Nexo stuff and thats always sounded pretty good. I agree, one of my mates owns some nexo kit and he also runs them on a couple of qsc plx's, sounds sweet! :(
