kennethwatt
HiI'm LDing a production of Oklahoma. From what I can see, the venue we're performing in doesn't have a strobe or flash bulbs. Is there any way of creating a quick flash like that of a camera? Thanks :)Kenneth
mac.calder
If you want something relatively cheap for the "lots of cameras/paparazzi" feel... Pea Strobes aka Egg Strobes... basically they are small little random flashes. Position them as required, and plug in - they flash randomly, so if you want to be able to cue it, out of luck really. They are also not hugely powerful, so they work best when visible, but due to the fact they are so small, you can secret them around a set really easily. Jivemaster
Recycle a flash unit from a disposible camera, usually FOC from your local minilab, or rent a small strobe for the period.

mumbles
Out of curiosity, as I've been touring LX on Oklahoma in the UK for 8 month now, and so have the whole show imprinted on my mind, whereabouts in the show are you having the camera flash? The only place any of us lot can think of would be during the wedding dinner scene. If so, its presumably from a shot taken DS somewhere, and so you won't see the flash source itself. And trying to mimic the effect with a strobe behing the pros pointing US will look very odd as it will be very obviously a xenon flash, rather than the ignited powder they would have used in 1907. M Hi :) Director has everyone grouping in to a tight bunch at the end of Farmer and the Cowman, Act II Scene I. A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. Period camera flash 'poof' effect. Ever pulled the string on a party popper without the cardboard disk? Hi, yeh, always good fun :)Will see if that would work - fire alarm etc! I'll have a chat with the director tomorrow, but I've been told to do whatever I think is best; and knowing me this could be disastrous!
