Source 4 - refuses to light

Hi all,

I've had a S4 19deg on my work bench for a bit now and it is making me go slightly mental. :)

I bought it down as it wasn't working (lamp not coming on) and assumed it was a simple lamp replace. This didn't work.

I have since taken the whole thing apart and put it back together and still no joy so I am hoping that maybe someone has some insight on this.

The facts so far:

I have tested continuity on L/N/E to the lamp holder, no problems there.

I have tested Earth continuity to the lantern lens tube and other parts, no problems.

The lamp WILL light when the assembly is not placed into the back of the lantern. Tested and wiggled about.

As soon as you place the assembly into the back of the lantern it stops working. Tested with and without the fixing screw tightened.

I have tested with multiple lamps, same results.

I have tested at different orientations of the lantern. Same results.

I am not far from sending this to someone else to drive crazy but I thought, just before that, I would ask the community as it is altogether possible that I am missing something very simple and/or obvious!

Thanks in advance.

I have had a similar problem with a different lantern. Try changing the Cable from the plug to the unit. I suspect they could be a break in the wiring somewhere, which only 'breaks' when the unit has been put back together. Strange I know............

Hi,

It sounds to me that the cable is at fault here. there is another test you can do. When doing this test DO NOT PLUG IT IN. Put a short across the lamp holder ie a pice of wire beteeen the live and nurtal. and put the meter on the plug and check continuity before putting it to geather now if you can tape the meter probes to the plug so as you are putting it back to geather and you mite get the fault as what is ever happening shoud open the continuity. Hopefuly it will lead you to the fault.

I am taking a guest here and I would say it where the cable connects to the lamp holder
