LXbydesign
Hi Chaps / Chapesses, Does anybody know from interest / knowledge or worked on the tour beforehand, whats used for the music for the orchestra. I can see everyone has a tablet of some make, but whats the system being used to send the music and 'turn the pages' to each tablet. I assume its all on timecode anyway....... This isnt a 'geek' question, but im interested in using something similar - or the same, for a project in the new year If anybody can give any heads up id be very grateful. Unfortunatly I dont have Jeff Waynes number to give him a call and ask him! :** laughs out loud **:
p.k.roberts
I have a dim recollection of this info being included in an article about the show in LSI last year, but I can't seem to get onto the website to check at the moment.
Brian
I did some stuff on the previous tour. IIRC the whole thing was scored in Sibelius which was then used to drive the displays on each music stand. I can't at the moment remember whose display they were. neild
We've got the tour coming through next month, and the guys are all very friendly on WOTW, so I can try and find out for you then if no-one else can answer first!
steve h
There are various digital music stands out there at the moment. From single stands which have switches or foot pedals to turn the page to system connected up that do it all for you or from the conductors stand. Sibelius does have the power to run these but however cool they are I still prefer playing from Paper and turning myself! Much less to go wrong and most scores are set out so that page turns are in nice places!
Roderick
Just out of curiosity, and I am not even a muso, but how do you pencil your little notes on an electronic tablet? When ever I worked with orchestra's, everyone had a pencil (and eraser) frantically makes notes throughout the score.... neild
We've got two nights of it delightfully sandwiched between the '80s Rewind Tour' and Peter Andre! Oh the joys of the winter touring shows.... Let me know if there is anything else you want to know while they're here.
NeilW
Hi, Here is a blog post from one of the guys on the tour that has some photos of the system: http://www.brewpse.co.uk/blog/the-war-of-t...ion-rehearsals/ It looks like the music display is on a Music Pad Pro from freehand music: http://corporate.freehandmusic.com/products-musicpadpro.php Hope this helps, Neil
neild
OK, so its the 2nd and final night of WOFTW and I only managed to have a brief chat with the Production manager... All I got from them is that it is a proprietary system, and is not run through Sibelius. It uses the show time code and also each muso has a foot pedal which triggers the page turn. - With that and a brief glance at the panels, I would say it was the 'Music Pad Pro' linked to in the previous post. Have to say, the show has been relit this year, and has some new SFX and is looking awesome! Hope that helps at least a little! Neil
paulears
OT comment but vaguely linked - Is Herbie Flowers still playing bass? I know he still was in the band a couple of years ago, just wondered if he's in the current tour . He's 72 and we share the same birthday. A really nice bloke and always great with students. neild
Bad timing Paul! The show has just started so I can't find out much more now! I'm not sure if any of the crew I'm dealing with would know the orchestra that well, but I can ask around! Cheers, Neil
Simon_Baker
Herbie Flowers is still playing in the band. His wife also plays the cello in the orchestra. Simon B
neild
Simon is actually with the tour, not just the lowly venue tech, so can probably answer these questions way better than I can!
LXbydesign
Thanks for the heads up chaps! I will investigate forementioned systems.
