woody01
Hi, I basically have three rooms in which I want to put sound into and all 3 rooms be controlled in room 1. Room 1 will have the controls aswell as two loud speakers Room 2 will have a single speaker Room 3 will also have a single speaker Room 2 and 3 needs to be just for general music however the room 1 is the most important, as this needs to be disco loudness such as 500W each speaker. I want to run all this off 1 amp and also I need if possible to room select so can be played in either room or all 3 rooms. Please help?!? Thanks
OllieH
Welcome to the forums. You've joined a very dedicated and helpful community. Just remember to fill in all your details i.e. location (as per the forum rules). If I am to make a number of assumptions, this doesn't seem like an overly complex installation. But at the same time it does require certain knowledge and, though we can assist you, we can't write you the perfect guide to installing a multi-room sound system. Firstly, there's a few questions you need to answer. What is the wattage of the speakers in the other rooms (taking into account impedance, etc)? How much control do you need over the speakers in the other rooms? What sort of inputs do you intend to use? Does the system require paging for example? Also, it might help to mention the nature of the installation i.e. is this a pub or club (which I presume it is) or is this for a gym or alike? Thanks for the quick reply! The nature of the installation is for a social club firstly. I simply need to be able to select which room I want the sound in and how loud I want it to be. Its not a huge budget so not the best equipment im looking at in the world. This is the amp I was looking at.... http://www.whybuynew.co.uk/pa-systems-live...0-power-amp.htm I am also looking at the 500W prosound speakers from maplin... Impedance: 8ΩFrequency Response: 50Hz - 18kHzSensitivity: 96dB (1w@1m)Connector Type: 2 x SpeakonProgramme Power: 500WmaxPower Handling: 250Wrms The other two speakers I havnt looked at as any decent speaker for music that would work will be great. Thanks Is there any reason you DON'T want a decent music speaker for the main pair?? seriously, for the money look at the Thomann range, or studiospares, please not the maplin ones, you will be paying over the odds for naff speakers, "pro" they aint... personally I would look at getting a pair of amps, one for the main PA, one for the other rooms, presumably you just need to put the material in these as background music in which case you could look at thomanns "The box Total Contols" not too bad sounding, especially for £

Would the output of the mixer just daisy chain on the two amp inputs for it to work then?
TonyMitchell
You could look at some of the 4-channel amplifiers now on offer, e.g.http://www.labgruppen.com/products/fp_plus...ies/c/fp_6000q/ Channel 1 & 2 could be for the main room, channels 3 and 4 for the remote rooms. The amplifier I've linked to gives 625wrms per channel at 8 ohms hence should be sufficient for the main room. Alternatively if you opt for two separate 2-channel amplifiers, you have the benefit of redundancy and could keep the main room running if one amplifier were to fail. However, before choosing an amplifier, you should decide what speakers you want in the main room first - consider how loud you want them to be and their dispertion pattern in relation to the shape of the room, expected coverage and placement. Then choose an amplifier to suit - ideally 1.5-2.0 times the RMS rating of the speakers. and +100 to what other have already said about avoiding the craplins speakers! Hope this helps. woody01
Can I not for instance just use 2 loud speakers via the speakon outputs and the two binding posts for the two smaller speakers in another room? Thanks
TonyMitchell
Can I not for instance just use 2 loud speakers via the speakon outputs and the two binding posts for the two smaller speakers in another room? Thanks With just one 2-channel amplifier? That isn't going to give you separate control of levels in each room. Also, if you have less powerful speakers in the remote rooms, not only may it be too loud in there, you may overload the smaller speakers. I guess you could run the main room in mono off channel one and the two remote rooms in mono off channel two, in this case the levels in both remote rooms would be common. djw1981
But do you want to have them all at teh same volume?
woody01
yes I do want to have control of all 3 rooms.... maybe I just need to have one system for the main room and another for the other two rooms. I would just have to split the signal from the mixer into both amps. Sorry to be a hassle but what amp would go with the box total control speakers from thomans? bassnote
Another thumbs down for the Maplins Pro Sound speakers, I heard a pair once... I would strongly recommend 2 amps, as this will give you easy control over the two different rooms, and if say the second 2 rooms are background, you shouldn't need a that powerful amp to power them. As you state, you are after budget range stuff for this project I will list some thomann speakers to suit (not that I know these boxes very well) Main Room:2 x BEHRINGER EUROLIVE B215XL - 250w RMS at 8 Ohm (the Maplin 500w are actually only 250w RMS!) - http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_eurolive_b215xl.htm - £125 x 2 = £2501 x THE T.AMP TA1050 MK-X - 2 x 350w RMS at 8 Ohm - £160 or the why buy new w-audio one.... Small rooms:2 x The Box PA106 - 80w RMS at 8 Ohm - http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_pa_106.htm - £47 x 2 = £941 x Samson Servo 300 (B-stock) - 2 x 100w RMS @ 8 Ohm - http://www.thomann.de/gb/samson_servo_300_demo.htm - £113 Make sure you get enough decent speaker cable and some speakon's for this - really a min on 1.5mm cable is a must. Speakons - http://cpc.farnell.com/neutrik/nl2fc/speak...pole/dp/CN04523 1.5m Speaker Cable 100m - http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-power/78-15x2-1...100m/dp/CB08666 - £63 To get independent control of the 3 spaces, it is down to the amp volumes, plug your mixer in the inputs of the main amp then take the paralled jack output from this and put them into the second amp. Then - if you want the small rooms on and the main rooms off, just turn the volumes down on the front of the amps for the main room. Hope this helps, Peter

timtheenchanteruk
IIRC the Pros have a red strip on the badge, and the normal control ones dont, a quick google shows the standards as 50WRMS, the pro 150WRMS, SPL of 89 and 108, slight difference in the freqency response as well, if you go for the standards, CPC are cheaper than the E-bay offering, plus you have the aftercare of a reputable company. Thomann is delivered from germany (at least my last one was) but returns are easy enough, usually takes about 2 days for standard delivery to get here.
