I have a C audio 2 x 1100 power amp driving Martin 2 x 18 subs..on powering up the amp no sound comes from the speaker but if you really push it it starts to sound like its trying to burst into life the does only to have to do the same thing at every gig to get it going....sounds like a dry joint or something....and I belive but not sure cuts in and out when being used....can these older power amps be repaired and and one know of some one who can look these things over..I live near Hull any help thanks Stewart

Could be a couple of things; speaker relays being the favourite, followed by a dirty connector between the front panel and the main board. Sometimes tapping a suspect relay with something like a screwdriver handle will temporarily make the fault come and go. (but be careful as the Pulse has a particularly nasty set of voltages in there).

You could remove the front panel (the whole panel unplugs from the chassis) and give it a blow out and replace it; the fans tend to make the front panel connector dirty and dusty where the air flows.

If its anything more serious, the Pulse amp protection should cut in as it is quite comprehensive on this model.

Hi Sly - It could be relays as Kevin suggested - however I've seen this quite a few times on lots of different amps, and it's pretty much always pre amp op-amps that are failing. Causing the audio to 'burst' though like that.

We can take a look at it for you - www.cimplesolutions.com - book it in and track it online.

Cheers

Cliff.

Try replacing the power supply caps, they're renound for "drying out", TF.
