AndyJones
Hello guys, We are looking to upgrade the connectors on our pyro firing units, at the moment we are using 4 pin XLR but are unhappy with this, we have to seal all the connections and have issues with cables getting pulled out with only a slight tug.Is there anything better than XLR that people can think of? Needs to have:A high ip ratingNo exposed metal work so we can use it near salt waterLockingHave at least 4 pins My current thoughts are maybe nl4? I'm not bothered about people mistaking it for speaker cable, due to the fact all of our pyro is done outdoors away from other tech companies. Opinions please guys!? csg
you can buy neutric ip rated / waterproof 4 pin XLR connectors, which lock as all XLR connectors do. These have stainless steel bodies, so no problem with sea water.
Jivemaster
I'd be looking at the CPC book for Buccaneer connectors. These have many different contact arrangments and ratings and usually come in good IP ratings but usualy only when mated. Chose your connector well and there will be screw or bayonet locking mechanisms. ONE caveat! be aware that some series will only mate in certain ways Cable connectors often only lock onto panel connectors preventing you from using leads as extensoins. I'd also look at jelly filled crimp connectors, these keep moisture off the connecting surfaces by having a goo inside, good quick and waterproof but needs a special tool to close them
AndyJones
Hello guys, Thanks to those who have taken the time to reply. We already use the crimps for extending from the pyro back to the box. The connectors I need are for sending the control signals between boxes. It would be nice to be able to drop the ends in the water and not worry about corroded pins,But I don't think that's going to be possible!
lightsource
A bit late Andy, but have you looked at: http://www.fischerconnectors.co.uk/htm/App...-Connectors.htm Watertight (IP68) and/or gastight (10-8 mbar·l/s) Marine based connectors if you want to drop anything into water. lightsource
If a product matches the criteria, then price becomes a grey area.
