walmer92
Hi. I'm a student and I'm just starting to stage manage quite a few shows at my uni. I have one coming up where the biggest scene involves ghosts moving things with their minds - rocking chairs moving, shelves falling down, etc. Everything I've done before has just been about getting props and putting them in the right places, so if anyone could give me some advice, or even point me in the direction of a website or book that would give me some ideas I'd be really grateful. Thanks.
kitlane
Lots of black string, fishing line, small pulleys, spring loaded door closers, screw eyes and hinge pins! For example, a rocking chair with a black line or fishing line can be made to rock. A shelf held up on rods that can be pulled away from behind the flat. Spring loaded door closers held 'open' with a hinge pin and two screw eyes. When released by pulling the hinge pin with a piece of string it could knock books off shelves, smash plates etc. Curtains on a track that open and close via an offstage operator. It's mostly very simple, cheap technology and can be lots of fun.
