dazyonfire
Hello All, I have just started in house teching at a venue in the north east and came across a strand 300 stuffed in a box in the corner. sourced out the power supply and it doesnt power up. was wondering if there are any known issues with the 300 (apart from being a bit rubbish). Strand archive dont seem to have any documentation on the 300 series at all *frowns*. would quite like to get it working as the current strand mx is pretty horrible! paulears
The 300 has a pretty good reputation really - the only thing people complain about are the rather rubbery button action and the fact a few features are missing! Like the manual fader for time, but no button to turn it on! Most people including me quite liked the 500 series os on a smaller footprint control - and the ability to split the main panel from the subs. When you say it doesn't power up - presumably you mean the cpu unit - it's totally dead? Treat it like a computer and total deadness could simply be a duff psu or other silly/simple problem. Any more info you have?
dazyonfire
Thanks for the reply, I have changed the IEC's and the fuse in the unit. the unit does not power up, but I get a black/blank screen when I connect a screen. I've stripped it out and cannot see any problems, and cannot get any life whatsoever out of the base unit or the desk. Am I missing something? I've heard they can be a bit temperamental.... Ynot
Nope - other than the usual niggles you get with any desk that's now showing it's age the main problems tend to be physical. We've had a couple of software issues with ours over the past couple of years but both of our 300s are working well still at the moment (They're both about 10 yrs old). Were you a bit closer I'd suggest you brought it in for a gander - maybe there's another Blue roomer nearby who can have a look...?
DrV
The PSU should be powered up as soon as you plug it in - there is no mains switch - but the CPU board has a relay on it which needs to close before it comes to life. You might want to check whether there is any voltage at the output of the power supply. IIRC it is just a single rail - either 12v or 24v - can't remember which. Like Ynot I'd be happy to look at it for you but I'm even further away. If the control surface is in reasonable nick and you have some money to spend, Used Lighting had some processors. neilalexrose
Check the CPU card is seated properly - take it out and re-seat. I had a strand 300 that I sold on ebay that arrived with the buyer DOA. Suspected that the courier company had something to do with it (dropped it!). It was sent back to me, and I refunded. After a quick conversation with someone in the service department at Whitelight, they suggested I try re-seating the processor first, and lo and behold, one working strand 300 again! Same kind of symptoms as you describe, also the LCD screen on the face panel was lit up with a load of gibberish on it. It couldn't boot, because there was no processor to use! If I remember, the fan was going, so the PSU was working, don't know if thats similar to your situation. If in doubt, phone the service department at Whitelight, they're pretty good. Kazeja
Yup. Agree with reseatting the processor. The power supply should become live with the mains connected. It does not get through to the electronics until the green switch is pressed. If the green light momentarily comes on or you hear the relay click and it dies, chances are there is a problem on the power rails and suggest you check these out for shorts/low resistance with a meter. If no green light appears then chances are there is a problem with the circuitry associated with the power on stage and the unit will need to be sent away for further investigation.
