Quincy
Hi All, I am looking at getting some speaker stands, probably not the most exciting subject, but still needs must. I am looking at spending the extra and getting the winch operated ones, if nothing else, to save my back! Does anyone have any experience with these? are they worth the extra? Can you recommend and makes / models? Also, where can I find out about H&S regs with regards to do you have to barrier them off etc? Thanks Andrew Ooops meant to say these are the tripod type for 12" / 15" speakers.
Unfathomable
What sort of hight are you looking at?
Quincy
To date I have been looking at something like this http://cpc.farnell.com/pulse/pls00012/35mm...ker+stand+winch which goes up to 2.3meters, this is obviously to the base of the speaker. If the regs work around a height and I need to stay under something, thats great as long as I know. Thanks Andrew
StevieR
K&M Model 213 would be my recommendation. Pretty much the industry standard and all spares readily available as has been discussed previously. These are not exactly cheap and much more than their push-up cousins but well worth the money in the end. Steve
Chris Beesley
Just so happens we have signed up as a K&M dealer... initial stock order is being worked on at the moment.
Alec
Just so happens we have signed up as a K&M dealer...Nice! :) I will beat Thomann on price!Even nicer!!! :( About time K&M gear was available at a decent price. I'm just awaiting a Thomann delivery for a few stands - the cheapest UK supplier I could find was about 50% more pricey! If you can pull this off it will be great to have reliable overnight delivery, no foreign exchange costs, and competitive prices!
Nid
May I add... Good tripod stands as well as a pro setup, should be topped with these: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c360/boniton/Serial00001007.jpg See details here :)
Brian
Also, where can I find out about H&S regs with regards to do you have to barrier them off etc? There are none - do your own risk assessment.
paulears
Moderation: Gentlemen, ah hem, please remember the commercial rules. Chris's bit about beating Thomann's price breaks the rules, however (so I've removed it, but not quickly enough for it to not be mentioned), and then a bit further down Nid slipped in his plug for his own companies interesting gadget in a bit of stealth advertising, I suspect the OP will benefit. Our usual interpretation of the "it's ok to post if it's a response" sort of fits, just - so just remember for the future, please!
Chris Beesley
K&m do some handy little flags for speaker stand legs - this could be used along with some hi-viz floor marking tape around the stand. The other option I have seen on a number of occasions are the Tensa type barriers. All of this however falls on your own risk assessment etc.
Quincy
Thanks Chris, do you have a part number for them yet? The stands were just too far out of budget, but I like the idea of the flags. Working on risk assessment at the moment. Back to original question from any one that uses winch stands, do the work, is it easy to winch the speaker up in place? are they worth the extra price? Thanks Andrew

Shez
is it easy to winch the speaker up in place? are they worth the extra price? If the alternative is to push up the stand manually, then yes, winches all the way. Lifting 25kg of speaker with one hand whilst wrestling the pin in with the other isn't much fun...
