Trying to represent the actual firework images on the cyc was a complete pain to set up, involved loads of kit, and the end result was not particularly realistic. Using flashes of coloured light onto the actors to represent "offstage" fireworks actually looked a lot more realistic and was much easier to do. Less is more.
