Blaize110
I currently run a DMX disco lighting rig from a tablet PC using Freestyler. However it is useful to use the Magic 3D visualiser software when programming but the tablet has limited processing power and it is a pain to keep switching between windows. I was wondering if anyone knew how the 2 pieces of software interfaced and/or some networking trickery that would make it possible to connect them up so that the Magic 3D visualiser can be run on one PC and Freestyler on another, with them linked over a network, or even just connected together with a Xover cable? What gave me the idea this might work is that when I loaded up Magic 3D for the first time, the firewall asked permission to allow it so I'm guessing there is some networking component in there. I'm not holding out too much hope of it working, but I thought that if anyone would know then they'd probably be on BlueRoom :P Rory EDIT: Just found this in the online help "The 3D visualizer includes different “modes”, each receiving the DMX signal from a different source (software, console/desk, network, etc). The software is capable of visualizing up to 4 DMX universes simultaneously. " So apparently M3D will recieve. Not sure how to tell it to though or get freestyler to send. Blaize110
Quick update. I gathered that ArtNet was probably the easiest way of networking the software. However it appears that Magic 3D needs the Sunlite dongle in order to work with ArtNet (for activation rather than functionality) For the moment I have found a workaround in that I can extend the tablet's desktop and run VNC. I can then connect using the other PC and view the offscreen desktop which has Magic 3D on. I'm still curious about how Freestyler communicates with Magic3D on the same PC though, especially if the firewall is involved. Another option is to change software, does anyone know a good free 3D visualiser that will recieve ArtNet?
