Strand77
Hi all I have a show coming up soon using some of the above moving heads and would like to mount some of them in auditorium. I have a lighting bar which is mounted vertically either side of stage. I would like to mount the Varilites on these but was unsure if they would work properly mounted on their side anyone know if it is possible ? Thanks Jim
smalljoshua
Could you not just use something like http://www.doughty-engineering.co.uk/shop/7/60/index.htm to mount them in the normal way? Josh
Ben
Yes its perfectly possible as long as they have the correct clamps, we often use them in odd positions with half couplers. The most awkward part may well be a way of securely attaching a safety. However just because its possible does not mean its always the best option and the options that Josh pointed out are also worth investigating. jonathanhill
The rails on the V*L 2000 and 3000 series units will take a variety of different clamps and the units can be used in any orientation. I would recommend half couplers if you did want to do a vertical hang, but it will be a pain with a 27kg unit with no pan or tilt locks that wants to flap around everywhere. Far easier will be to get a gallows de-rig and hang it horizontally on that.
timsabre
As well as the mounting considerations, I find that programming a moving head rigged on its side can be a bit confusing.
Smiffy
I'd have to agree with Timsabre. While a VL fixture is generally happy to be rigged in any orientation, programming a fixture rigged on it's side is a real PITA. Go for a sidearm of some sort.
