ceiling fans

hey all,

we will be doing pajama game this spring at the high school I teach at. anyway the scenic designer had mentioned wanting to have some ceiling fans for the industrial scene....I was thinking maybe some fans that have the belt that go around all of them and are powered by one motor.

does anyone have any experience with this type of fan idea or any other suggestions....I know using motors is difficult on battons since we do not have non-dimmable dimmers so we would have to run power from walls and up to the battons..

thanx...

Is it really necessary to have the actual fans?

Something like ceiling fans is going to interfere with the rest of the set pieces - if you fly them in/out they're going to impede the adjacent fly bars, and also potentially the nearby lanterns...

Also indistrial fans are seldom of the ceiling variety - they're normally part of a vent system with extractors set into ceilings/walls etc. In which case why not revise the plan and use a rotating fan gobo (possibly out of focus) to give the impression that you have a fan or two...?

One thing that comes to mind when you mention fans is one of the stock gobo's in a Mac entour which I have used quite sucesfuly in a industrial themed show just projected on the back wall with a slow - medium fast rotation. In addition to many sticks of tri truss and a industrial themed back drop looked quite good.

Wow that took a long time to type on a I phone 4.......
