Timeteam
My Kit: Peavey CS1000 Power Amp Peavey Unity 2000 mixing desk 2 x Peavey CL-2 Tops 2 x Peavey Bass Flex Bins I'm trying to test the kit, its quite old and has been laying around for a couple of years in a garage but last time it was set up it worked fine, however I was not the person who set it up before and therefore don't know my way round it that well. I want to test it all works before I sell it. The problem is that I'm getting no sound from the Bass Flex bins. I had a normal electric guitar plugged into the desk, outs from the desk plugged into the A Channel of the power amp and then outs from the "speaker output" of the power amp into the inputs of the 2 bass bins. Then the from the high output from the bass bins the two CL-2s plugged in to the "full range" sockets. When I play the guitar the CL-2s produce sound but nothing from the bins (even when I'm driving the desk and power amp quite hard…going into the amber and red). Is it because they only respond to a lower frequency sound, or have I wired it wrong or is it likely that the speakers have gone. Sorry if this is a noob question. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. MarkPAman
.......... has been laying around for a couple of years in a garage.......Unless it's a very dry garage that may not have done it a lot of good - see a recent topic on storing stuff in a shed. When I play the guitar the CL-2s produce sound but nothing from the bins (even when I'm driving the desk and power amp quite hard…going into the amber and red). Is it because they only respond to a lower frequency sound, or have I wired it wrong or is it likely that the speakers have gone.Chances are that very little is going to come from the bass bins with just a guitar. I'd start testing by only connecting one speaker at a time & with a CD (or MP3 player) as the sound source.
Doug Siddons
+1 for Mark, the electric very unlikely to produce a noticeable blip on the subs, a cd or mp3 is the much better option
