bailey116
Help? When I use my projector, occasionly it can 'loose signel' and flash green and fuzzy images! Is this a VGA problem or Projector problem? Any help to resolve this please. We are running a long VGA (approx 20m VGA)!
ivojo
Sounds like a cable length problem is the most likely culprit. Can you test the system using a shorter cable? Whilst we've had VGA runs up to 30 metres it does depend on cable quality, resolution (might be worth trying a lower resolution for testing) and the environment in which the cable is installed. Depending on the circumstances we sometime warn people they may need an amp for runs over about 15. They don't need to be particularly expensive, something like the Kramer VP-111 would be ideal should you need a booster.
bailey116
Thanks! We do usually use a Belkin Omniview Expandview (which booses singles), but our cable is massive and our projector is in a cradle in the rig. I will look into more VGA cables... Thank You! What would be better VGA or S-VGA?! Projection isnt my strongest aspect.
ivojo
You'll generally get the best image from it if you send it it's native resolution. What model of projector are you using?
plinque
What would be better VGA or S-VGA?!Generally best to start with XGA (1024 x 768) on projector and output device...

Im using a 'Optoma' Projector, not too sure what model it is. But I know its new, and decent. :)
JazzAV
Do you know what resolution you are running (I know you have stated VGA but I'm guessing you are using that as a generic term), if you are running something like 1024 x 768 over 20m you should be perfectly fine. It does sound like a dodgy cable or connection somewhere. Unless you are trying to send some strange resolution to it, either very high or some kind of HD signal that the input doesn't like..Did it work before and has just started doing this? or is it a new set-up? When you do have a picture would you say it is very good, or does it look a bit rubbish and not very stable?

If it's the latter then the bandwidth the signal requires may be pushing the cable a bit at 20 metres.
bailey116
It has previously done it before, it sometimes will be fine, but the projector can say,, no singal randomly. Im not too sure which too buy to replace the cable, VGA, XGA etc? A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. It does look a little bitty from close up, but cannont generally be a big notice but its not the best quality.
JazzAV
Get a short VGA cable and connect the Laptop directly to the projector over a short distance just to ensure the set-up is ok. As long as everything is working fine, then I would suggest you just need to buy a new long VGA cable.
