mkfs9
Hi. I have just got a pair of JBL SRX 718 subs 800 watts rms. I have many amps to use of various power, How much would you give them. I have heard 800 is plents, but I have always gone upto program wattage when matching amps and had no problems.
back_ache
How powerful an amplifier needs to be for given a speaker is quite a contentious issue. For my money, the issue is making sure the solution is robust and that a clipped signal is not sent to the speaker. One way to do this is to look at the spec' sheet for the speaker and look at what the speakers resistance is and what its continuous rating is. I would then look for an amplifier that at the speakers resistance will provide double the continuous rating (again this information will be in the products tech' spec sheet). As the spec' sheet says 800w continuous, I would go with the 1500. http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Prod...d=115&MId=
TonyMitchell
+1 for the 1,500w /side amp. the SRX boxes sound good when generously powered.
abbotsmike
I'd agree with the 1500 aside. Headroom is good.
