lonfire
Hi,has anybody used the CDJ-1000 fader start feature? I need to start a CD track as a backup for a PC playback system. The hardware controlled from the PC has a relay output that blips on when the playback starts so I want to use this to trigger the backup CD player. If anybody can tell me how the control input works to a CDJ-1000 I might hire one to have a play. I'd assumed it was some sort of digital protocol to control it, but after reading around a bit it seems like it might just be a simpler system. But nowhere tells you what the protocol is! the manual just says "Control signal".. RegardsChris
Shez
The fader starts that I've encountered in radio studios have just been contact closures - short the two terminals together and off it goes. There are more sophisticated versions out there but I suspect in this instance it'll be the simple approach.
Jivemaster
Two systems that I have met are. short pulse initiates start and stop, and long contat closure permits play (open contacts to stop).
KevinE
The remote play/cue is really meant for connection to either another CDJ1000 or a DJM mixer, it is a bidirectional signal (ie is used as both input and output depending on the player state). To make it work with an external non-pioneer desk, you need to input a 5V dc momentary signal to the 3.5mm mono jack. For Cue, tip is + wrt sleeve, and for Play, tip is - wrt sleeve. KevinE
PS; if you can pick up a seperate 0V return lead from one of the Pioneer output phono sockets back to your computer-driven relays, you can then simply ground the jack tip momentarily to trigger a play command from an already cued-up track. This is because the tip and sleeve of the remote jack have pull up resistors to keep them at 5V. Bear in mind the player itself will pull this down momentarily at the end of a track as it attempts to signal a relay-play to any other connected player. Watch out for hum loops on the audio doing it this way though.

KevinE
for references purposes denon equipment uses the same protocol. You can actually plug a Pioneer 3.5mm remote lead into a Denon mixer and it will play and cue on the faders. I dont know if a Denon player will work in a Pioneer mixer, never tried it!
