25pin dimmer to DMX controller - problem

Hello. I have a problem, so if someone could help me with it, would be great!

I have an old 24kw digital dimmer with 8 channls for halogen par lights and it has a 25pin(dat. and link) connector for its mixer(25pin connector also).

Now I have par64 led lights and some other light efects with XLR DMX out and in... And now I have a new mixer with XLR IN... How could I connect the old dimmer that has a 25pin conector(I don't know with some cable 25pin to XLR maybe?) to the new mixer so the mixer would recognize, and I could operate with dimmer and all 8 channels. So I could have everything on one mixer.

Thank you.

Jernej

Short answer - assuming the old equipment uses analogue control, you'll need a Demux.

But before we jump to conclusions, can you give us more details on the old equipment? Manufacturer? Model? Any details on the control protocol?

Hello. Sorry for my late reply. and tnx for your reply. I could not find this dimmer on the internet. Manufacturer:EZR ... made in slovenia :S and its analog.

Really little to tell about it...

I ask few people around here about it... they also said that I new a demux, but in can't find any demux for sale. Are there any blueprints for this converter?

I don't know much about this tech. so ... hm... I know I need a analog(25pin in) to digital(DMX 512) converter... but thats it..

OK - first things first - we don't really call the lighting control a 'mixer' - it's most often just a 'lighting desk'.

A little pedantic, but avoids confusion with those noise boys huddled in the corner over there... :P

Now, I assume you have the dimmers available to you? Maybe some photos on here would help.

To help with identifying a suitable demux we'd ened to know what voltage the old desk you had/have outputs to control this dimmer - may be time to get a multimeter out and check the output of the desk to see.

As to your new lighting desk, I suspect that it will have a DMX OUT (on XLR) which you would need to connect to a (suitable) demux which would break out to the anaologue dimmer.

What is the new desk you've acquired?

:P yep. Yea I have the Lite Putter 8 channel dim controller, MODEL : C801 (now our lite putter its a bit modified, it has just one 25pin connect) Here is the specifications http://mbtlighting.com/Uploads/PDFManuals/C801.pdf and http://www.mbtlighting.com/product-details...FTOKEN=87279926.

I can't messure the voltage right now because I'm away so if still needed... I can tell you this weekend :S

Now the new desk is the BEHRINGER LC2412 EUROLIGHT (http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/LC2412.aspx)

And it has a analog out... so I don't know... Here is the 3d view of the desk: http://www.thomann.de/gb/prod_zoom_AR_161602.html

OK.

From the Liteputer manual file above, it suggests that the output voltage is 10v (I'll assume +10v as there's no sign of a negative sign there...).

That tells you what you need to know for the demux. There are very few demuxes around which do less than 48 channels - in fact the only one I can find at the moment on Thomann (for example) is their ME72 from Botex. That will convert DMX to up to 72 channels of analogue and it can be selectable between + and - 10v. If memory serves it also uses 25 pin outputs to deliver the analogue signals.

Now, the new desk you have - the LC2412 - has a max of 24 channels of control. You do realise that these will be eaten up fairly quickly?

You have 8 dimmer channels to assign first, then your LED and "other light efects" will be fighting for space on the other 16. Even allowing for only 4 ch LED pars (most are 5, 6 or 7 ch) that means you'll only get 4 of the wee beasties under full control.

How many other lanterns/lights do you have?

I have 8 (stairville led par 64 10mm) lights and two glp movingheads (mv 250h) ... I'm in a process of buying the fog machine and some other effects in time :P .Yes I realise that the LC2412 is not enough. I was thinking of purchesing something else, maybe a DMX hard and software for the computer?...

About the demux, I saw this http://www.srslight.sk/datasheets/Datasheet_DTA16_en.pdf ... (http://www.srslight.sk/index.php?index=product&product=7)
