ibol123
We've been using the BEHRINGER ULTRA-DI DI20 DI/SPLITTER to connect our keyboard to FOH mixer and produces hisss noise when in use. I've tried all sorts of settings to minimise the hisss. I think that buying a new DI box for the connection would be the only way to remove the hisss noise. What would you guys recommend from your experience? Robin D
It might solve it but equally it may not. It depends where the hiss is coming from. If its noise on the output of the KB, it matters not what you do, it will come through. (Rubbish in = tweaked rubbish out!). Start by posting details of all the kit and the interconnects you are using and we might be able to advise better.

Well, we have a Yamaha XS-8 connected to the DI20 via 2(L-R) jack-to-jack unbalanced(I think) cable that is 90cm long. The DI20 is connected to a stagebox via 2 x 5m balanced XLR cable. The multicore cable from the mixer to the stagebox is roughly 30m. The mixer is a Yamaha LS-932. We have 2 instrument at the moment connected directly to the mixer, the XS-8 and an Ampeg Bass amp with built-in DI connection. Muting the keyboard eliminates the hisss so it can only come from the keyboard connection. We'll also be needing more DIs to connect accousting and electric guitars to the mixer.Hope this is enough info. @ Paul TCThanks for the link. I'll be looking into that. DrV
Muting the keyboard eliminates the hisss so it can only come from the keyboard connection.Quick and dirty check -If you leave everything on as normal but switch off the keyboard do you still get the hiss? If it stops then the hiss is coming from the keyboard itselfHTHDave
Dave SA
Those DI's are notoriously noisy. I avoid them like the plague.
charlyfarly
+1 to Dave SA's comment above, the Behringer D120's hiss like mad! I'm afraid that is what you get for something that costs around £20. Better to bite the bullet and splash out on something by BSS, Radial or Klark Teknik if you can stretch to that.
Dave SA
Actually any other DI in the world is better. Even the single channel Behringer (Di100 is it?) performs well in most environments. If you need a low noise floor in general then yes Charly is right. Look to the more professional manufacturers.
Alec
+2 from me. Bought a DI-20 a few years back as the price was unbeatable for a dual DI. However, it was of course too good to be true. Tried it out once, and it went straight back in the pack. The only silver lining? I finally got round to putting it on ebay a few months back and it bizarrely sold for more than I'd paid for it new - amazing! Better to bite the bullet and splash out on something by BSS, Radial or Klark Teknik if you can stretch to that. Yup, those'll do the trick & be very rider friendly. If you're on a budget, and I assume you are if you bought the DI-20, then the DI-100 is a completely different kettle of fish. May not be so rider friendly, but costs a fraction, and is likely to be good enough for you. The DI-20 and DI-100 perform completely differently.
