imax
hi everyone.I'm new to the site;actually new to the UK from US as well.I've got a quick question, but a bigger problem it seems.I recently bought a MXF 600 amp and 2x18" speakers.I've got the Speakon cables run out of the amp into the speakers, respectively, and am trying (to no avail) to connect my Pioneer DJM-600 mixer to the amp via XLR cables.normally whilst in the states,I had the Pioneer run into 2x15" JBL EON powered speakers, never had any problems;but now for some odd reason I'm not getting any sound at all.I admit,I don't really know much about powered amps, and the MXF seemed like a decent alternative to spending hundreds of dollars shipping my JBL's over,so I bought it.I've got the XLR cables run out of the Pioneer mixer 'Master Out 2' into the MXF imput XLR jacks.no sound,no nothing..I am getting sound out of the mixer via my headphones, but nothing is coming out of the amp.any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated as I have a huge gig coming up in a few weeks.best regards Daniel ;)

Check the infomation supplied with the amplifier. Also see this previous topic Unbalanced Amps And also this one Balanced - Unbalanced Both topics mention MXF amplifers Hope this helps
mi-ul
If you're using unbalanced then there may be a UK / US difference in wiring (or I could be making this up) The XLR should be wired pin1 ground and pin2 Hot, I seem to remember something about US cables using Pin3 as hot
bassnote
The XLR should be wired pin1 ground and pin2 Hot, I seem to remember something about US cables using Pin3 as hot There is 1 pioneer mixer that has the XLR connector wired the wrong way around - not a US thing but it was from the times when it wasn't set in stone and Pioneer happened to make a power amp with the same polarity as the mixer... Doug Siddons
According to the manual http://pioneer.ipapercms.dk/Manuals/DJM_600_DRB1317_manual/ it says on the output of the mixer pin1 Ground 2 cold 3 hot nb it also has a master attenuator control which might not be turned up
Mixermend
The problem is clearly that the Pioneer mixer is pin 3 hot and the amplifier is pin 2 hot - so the audio signal is not travelling between the 2 items! This is becoming quite rare now (thank goodness) - so a reversal of the wires on pins 2 and 3 at one end will sort this out and restore the music. KevinE
OK this is an easy one. The BK Elec MXF amplifiers use unbalanced inputs on XLR connectors. The Pioneer Mixers use balanced outputs on XLR connectors and unbalanced outputs on phono RCA sockets. You need a twin cable with phono/RCA on one end for the Pioneer and XLR on the other for the MXF amp. Note that the MXF amp uses non-conventionally wired XLRs, only 2 pins are used. Dont try to use the XLRs on the Pioneers to connect straight into the XLRs on the MXF amp no matter how you wire them.
