Unfathomable
Hi, I am looking for a new desk for my small PA. Current desk is a Spirit Folio F1 16:2. It has 8 mono channels but I often add more with a notepad thats just died. Have been looking at the Spirit SX second hand, but struggling to get one in budget. Budget is around £100, although I could push it for a really good deal. Looking second hand. Mixer will be doing mainly small functions and bands, usually Jazz. needs inserts, Auxs etc. Cheers David
originalshez
£100 is a pretty small amount. A+H Zed range could be worth a look, and Yamaha do some pretty cheap small desks. Realistically though, I can't see you getting 8+ channels without spending around
Bobbsy
The Folio F1 was a nice little mixer in it's day. Your budget is a bit low to find an equivalent quality board even on the second hand market unless you get very lucky. You'll find that most of the used mixers even for £100 don't have as good an EQ section and the mic pre-amps won't be as nice as on the Folio. If it was me, I'd stretch the budget a bit and look for something similar still from Soundcraft (or if you stretch even more, A&H). Bob
Yorkie
A couple of years ago I was looking for a second hand Folio SX and I ended up with a Folio RacPac, cased for £110. KevinE did a nice job of servicing it recently for me. The elderly RacPac has 10 mic inputs, 6 auxes and 4 groups. Bad points are that it doesnt have Aux masters or any mute buttons. If I remember correctly the Yamaha MG series are pretty well designed small desks, and whilst perhaps not as well regarded as Soundcrafts little mixers, a second hand one may come within your budget. Unfathomable
Believe it or not, I just got a rack cased SX for £90. Put out feelers in the local area and a promoter I have worked for "had it in the garage". I guess that's often the way. A nice email to come home to after a show anyway. Thanks for the replies.
