danburns Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Hi all, I've searched for this, and only turned up a couple of topics that didn't cover this - one was asking if the PSU could just be replaced with an IEC and that's * definitely* not what I want to be doing! We've got a Soundcraft FX8 mixer, it's a few years old now but has been treated relatively well through it's life. Every so often however, all of the output VU LEDs slowly start lighting up on by one until they hit 0dB on the meter. Then, there's a huge buzz coming through the system that turning down main mix doesn't solve. It seems that the PSU connector on the back of the desk is at fault, although only takes the slightest knock to cause it to buzz - and it's in as firmly as a badly designed connector can be. (I don't think I'd trust that connector to charge my phone...I'm sure it's fine as a PCB connector, just not the power connection on a sound desk!) Essentially what I want to know is if anyone has tried swapping the input connector for something a bit better (ideally locking!) - I was thinking along the lines of possibly an XLR4, as there's nothing else in the venue that uses them. (I know the supply from the PSU is only 3 pins, but 3 pin could be confused with mic, and 5 pin confused with DMX) Is it an easy job or a total PITA? Cheers Dan
