TeeJay
Greetings all, what would you all consider to be useful 'practical certificates' By this I mean short courses that prove to a potential employer that you are not just capable but qualified to do something. Examples of this to get you starting could be Portable Appliance Testing certificate, or being a qualified First Aider. What else would you look for? And how about skills in areas not necessarily (sp?) directly connected to theatre (computer skills?) Hoping I've not answered my own question too much, I look forward to the replies
Guest lightnix
Universal Aerial Platforms do some useful forklift, flying carpet and cherry picker courses which exceed CITB requirements and are quite reasonably priced. Sorry I don't have contact details.

JohnMac
Try your local Hire companies, I've recently done a course on the "safe erection and use of Aluminium and fibreglass Towers" through a national company. At the end you get a certificate, which helps in the "compentent person" discussions. (after 20 years of doing it safely... I've now got the piece of paper to prove it)!
