DMX-controllable haze/smoke machine needed

Hi

I am going to buy a smoke or haze machine for use in our school productions and concerts.

We have quite a big stage but I need it to be fully DMX controllable.

Ideally, I need it to be able to do the job of a hazer and also a smoke machine, so:

- to be able to have it on a low density, fairly continuous haze, to be picked up by stage lights (we are doing Les Mis this year!)

- to be able to send out a thick burst of smoke for certain effects.

Any suggestions as to a suitable make/model?

Many thanks.

They're virtually all DMX controllable now.

For good even haze ranging from very light to dense I'd recommend the Look Solutions Unique machines with their fast warm-up time.

However, there is a delay between moving from low to high density. I'm not sure any of the haze machines can do quick bursts like you would get from a dedicated machine. This for me is what separates them. You may find you need one of each type.

Hi, yes, I really like the look of the Unique 2.1 hazer and it would seem to do the job pretty well. However, with prices ranging from £730 to £850+, this may be a bit out of our budget.

Does anyone know somewhere that does it for less, or any other suggestions?

Thanks.

for a all in one unit to do both a fine Haze and thick clouds of smoke I would go with something like the Robe 1000FT which is a 1000w Fazer. (Basically a smoke machine with a fan stuck on the front)

And it has a removable remote and has DMX control.

This almost sounds perfect for what you want and they aint terribly expensive either. but I have no clue what they are worth in the UK.

I've just installed a Chauvet Arena 2 haser into a band venue in Manchester.

I was actually quite impressed with quality! It'll give u quite nice haze but also puch out a good blast of smoke!

It's rugged and fully DMX-able.

I do some freelance work at VME so I know they are currently distributing for Chauvet.

A bit more hacked together system but with good results and one that I use is 5 (or more) identical super cheap fog machines, direct from eBay. I've got them all DMX controlled (this is the hardest bit, but if you want a how-to I can give you one) and they produce a huge amount of fog when I hit the button. It's a cheaper solution depending on how many foggers you get, plus it gives you way better distribution of the fog, as well as being able to isolate each one. This works well for me, but be aware, you do have to open up the remote and add some stuff, nothing complex, but in a highschool situation they might not feel comfortable letting you do it.

While tromping round PLASA The smoke Factory had there spaceball and tour hazer machines on demo. I loved the fact they came flightcased together and were also idependant giving you the use of both at the same time. the haze output was fantastic and for its size the spaceballs smoke shots were brilliant. the spaceball can be used in any which direction you choose which can offer some great effects.

not only that. the build quality was really good on all there range
