countryman45
I have a KA1010 amp that I use at a local drama club. I wondered if I could put a on/off switch in a speaker so the actors can turn the speaker off when the amp is on. Is this ok, or will I need to pit in load resistors. Where can I get the instruction manual for it pse
sleah
A simple switch will be fine, you don't need a dummy load, or load resistor. Depending on how much power is going through, you may need a hefty switch, something like those aftermarket one you can get for cars. The speaker may not like being switched back on if the amp is going full tilt.... if it's only running background music then shouldn't be an issue. jamesperrett
You only need to use a load resistor if you are using a valve amp. James.
KevinE
I dont like to switch the output of a power amp unless it's muted first, some amps don't like the back EMF that is generated at the contacts, I've just repaired a blown-up Lab Gruppen that failed when a speaker connector went open circuit at full load. dwright2104
If the amp has soft start, you could get them to switch the mains power to the amp off. you could use an extension, or one of these.
